Document Tampering Post-Fire: RMC Officials Under Arrest

In the aftermath of the tragic fire at the TRP game zone in Rajkot, which claimed 27 lives last month, two employees of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) have been apprehended for allegedly altering official documents post-incident.

The city crime branch detained RMC’s assistant town planning officer, Rajesh Makwana, and assistant engineer, Jaideep Chaudhary, on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime, Parthrajsinh Gohil revealed their alleged involvement in modifying an official register and forging documents related to the TRP game zone following the fire.

With these latest arrests, the total number of individuals taken into custody has risen to twelve, half of whom are government employees. “So far we have arrested six government employees and six other persons in connection with the TRP game zone fire,” Gohil stated.

Previously arrested government officials include Rajkot’s Town Planning Officer M D Sagathia, assistant TPOs Mukesh Makwana and Gautam Joshi, and former station officer of Kalavad Road fire station Rohit Vigora.

In a recent development, Ashoksinh Jadeja, a co-owner of the game zone, turned himself in to the police. Jadeja is among the six proprietors of TRP game zone; five have been arrested while one was confirmed deceased in the May 25 blaze.

The investigation also led to the arrest of a manager of the game zone. Police confirmed that Prakash Hiran, another co-owner who was missing since the incident and named in the FIR, perished in the fire as he was present inside during the catastrophe.

CCTV footage indicated that the fire originated from sparks igniting thermocol sheets during welding work on the ground floor. Despite attempts by workers to extinguish it with fire extinguishers, it rapidly spread and engulfed the entire game zone.

Authorities noted that the game zone was operating without a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from RMC’s fire department. Following this incident, several similar establishments across Gujarat have been sealed and their owners charged for running without necessary permissions.
