End of Ordeal: Kanchanjunga Express Arrives at Sealdah Post-Collision

The tragic Kanchanjunga Express passengers' ordeal came to an end early on Tuesday morning when the train's undamaged coaches arrived at Sealdah station, according to an Eastern Railway official. The train was struck by a goods train near New Jalpaiguri, leaving nine people dead and several others injured.

The collision occurred on a rainy Monday morning in north Bengal at Rangapani, around 10 km from New Jalpaiguri station, badly damaging at least four of the train's rear coaches.

According to an official, the purpose of the presence of Calcutta Mayor Firhad Hakim, West Bengal Transport Minister Snehasis Chakraborty, and Divisional Railway Manager of Sealdah division Deepak Nigam at the station was to facilitate the orderly dispersal of passengers and their subsequent transportation to their residences.

The 13174 Kanchanjunga Express from the capital of Tripura, Agartala, was supposed to arrive in Sealdah on Monday at 7:20 p.m., but it arrived eight hours later at 3:16 a.m., according to an ER official.

He claimed that during the journey, the unfortunate passengers were given food, water, and medical attention at several stops, including Malda town and Sealdah. The passengers endured the terror and anguish of the disaster.

According to a state government official, the passengers at Sealdah station were given buses and small cars by the state's transport agency to make sure they got home safely.
