Netflix Announces New Cast for The Sandman Season 2
(L-R): Jack Gleeson, Clive Russell and Laurence O'Fuarain

The fantasy drama series The Sandman Season 2 on Netflix has nine new cast members, including comedian Steve Coogan and three actors from Game of Thrones: Jack Gleeson, Clive Russell, and Laurence O'Fuarain. The announcement was made on Tuesday.

Russell will play Odin, Thor's father and Loki's blood brother. Gleeson will portray Puck, a cunning hobgoblin who acts as King Auberon of Faerie's court jester. The voice of Barnabas, the dog who accompanied the Endless's prodigal brother, is provided by Coogan. O'Fuarain is going to play the thunder deity, Thor.

The Sandman is based on Neil Gaiman's 1989–1996 comic book series, which DC Comics published. The narrative centers on Morpheus, the personification of dreams, who is kidnapped in 1916 during an occult ceremony and imprisoned for 106 years. After making his getaway, Dream decides to bring peace back to his domain, the Dreaming.

Seasons of the Mist and Brief Lives, two Sandman books, are the source of the new characters.

According to showrunner Allan Heinberg, "the new characters are far more ruthless and as powerful as Dream (Tom Sturridge)—nearly as clever." "Together, they will entangle Dream in a web of demon battles, glitz, and palace intrigue," he continued.

Ruairi O'Connor of The Morning Show, Freddie Fox of Slow Horses, Ann Skelly of Red Rock, and Douglas Booth—who portrayed Nikki Sixx in the 2019 Netflix movie The Dirt—are among the other new cast members.

"There are new people joining The Dreaming. Introduce yourself to The Sandman's Orpheus, Wanda, Nuala, Cluarcan, Loki, Thor, Odin, Puck, and Barnabas, the creators wrote on X, the previous Twitter.

O'Connor will portray Orpheus, a musical artist, poet, and oracle who is Dream and the muse Calliope's sole child (Melissanthi Mahut). Fox will play the god of chaos, Loki, while Skelly will represent Nuala and Booth Cluracan. Siblings Nuala and Cluracan are complete opposites, yet they have an admirable level of loyalty to one another.

In addition to Aquaman, the cast includes actress Indya Moore from Lost Kingdom, who plays Wanda, a professional driver and security guard for a posh travel agency.

Gaiman finds special meaning in the figure of Wanda. "When I had trans friends and could not find them represented in the comics I was reading, I decided to create the first trans woman in a mainstream comic, which is how Wanda began for me in 1988," Gaiman said to Tudum. People have been telling me she was an inspiration to them for more than thirty years. He continued, "I'm overjoyed that she's on film in all her beauty 35 years later.

About the next episode of the show, Heinberg told Tudum, "The King of Dreams will come face-to-face — and go toe-to-toe — with the formidable rulers of Hell, Asgard, Faerie, and the realms beyond."

In Season 2, Adrian Lester as Destiny, Esmé Creed-Miles as Delirium, and Barry Sloane as The Prodigal are among the other Endless family members who will be joining Dream (Sturridge).

Together with Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Mason Alexander Park as Desire, and Donna Preston as Despair—all of whom are returning from Season 1—these newcomers complete the Endless family.

Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, Gwendoline Christie, Jenna Coleman, Ferdinand Kingsley, Stephen Fry, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Vanesu Samunyai, and Razane Jammal are among the other cast members who are returning.

The first season of the fantasy series, developed and executive produced by Heinberg, David S. Goyer, and Neil Gaiman, made its Netflix premiere in 2022.
