Siliguri BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh Appointed Main Whip of Bengal Assembly

The main whip of the saffron party in the Bengal Assembly would be Siliguri BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh.

He will take over for Manoj Tigga, the Alipurduar MLA for the Madarihat Assembly constituency. Two-time MLA Manoj ran for the Alipurduar Lok Sabha constituency in the Parliamentary elections, defeating Trinamool candidate Prakash Chik Baraik in the process.

Shankar was sent a letter on Monday by the principal secretary of the Assembly's secretariat.

It has been noted in the letter that the Speaker has acknowledged me as the opposition's top whip. He remarked, "I express my gratitude to Sukanta Majumdar, Suvendu Adhikari, and all other party leaders for their trust in me.

It should be noted that maintaining party discipline in the state legislature is the duty of a political party's whip. According to a source, he will have to make sure that party MLAs vote in accordance with the party's choice rather than their own opinions.

"The BJP received almost 2.33 crore votes in opposition to the TMC's misrule. In the Assembly, my fellow BJP MLAs and I will represent them," Shankar continued.

He added that in Siliguri, he has started a program of direct involvement with the locals to assist them in solving their difficulties.

The MLA declared, "Whenever I visit Siliguri, I will spend two hours in the morning and evening listening to the people and addressing their concerns with relevant authorities."

In order to speed up development projects, Shankar, who has spent about 30 years in politics, also intends to visit Siliguri's state and federal government offices. He continued, "There is also a plan to meet with representatives of various associations to learn about their problems."
