Indian Government Introduces Digital Diplomas for Athletes to Enhance Transparency

In an effort to provide a transparent record of their participation and success, the government will provide digital diplomas to registered athletes nationwide, according to a statement made by Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Thursday.

The digital certificate will serve as evidence of the athletes' accomplishments and include the dates of their tournament participation.

"With athletes at the heart of our progressing and growing sporting ecosystem, the sports ministry has made a crucial decision to promote the 'issuance of digital certificates to athletes'," Thakur wrote on "X."

During National Sports Day on August 29 of last year, the minister first revealed his intention to streamline procedures for athletes and National Sports Federations (NSFs).

The NSF portal was created on this occasion to guarantee excellent governance and convenience of doing business.

It is a single, centralized location for handling NSF elections and yearly renewals.

On Thursday, the minister said, "Keeping up with our policy of 'athlete-first', National Sports Federations (NSFs) have been advocated to issue certificates to athletes via DigiLocker, an initiative of Ministry of Electronics and IT." According to him, the digital credentials would provide a fresh perspective to managing athletes and sports administration.

"This decision has been made to guarantee the papers' accessibility, security, and accuracy as well as to foster efficiency and openness in the NSFs' sports administration. This will also result in a higher standard of life for our athletes nationwide.

"I request all the concerned NSFs to embrace the technological advancements and assure them of the full support needed for a smooth and timely transition," he said.
