Manipur Gun Theft Accused Placed on Transit Remand to Appear in Guwahati Court

A Manipur resident was placed on transit remand by the CBI so that he may appear in court in Guwahati about an alleged guns theft in Manipur.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) detained 45-year-old Moirangthem Anand Singh from Imphal on September 22. He was accused of planning to launch a war against India by "exploiting the current ethnic unrest in Manipur" with rebel groups located in Myanmar.

On October 20, a Delhi court approved Singh's transit remand.

On September 16, Singh was taken into custody by the police on suspicion of carrying weapons. After obtaining bail, the NIA detained him and took him to the Tihar prison in Delhi.

He is currently wanted by the CBI in relation to the heist of guns.

In Manipur, more than 5,000 firearms and ammo were taken from armories and police stations.
