Rahul Gandhi of the Congress led the "Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra," which finished its trip on Thursday in Assam by going through this Golakganj before moving on to West Bengal.

Following his overnight stay in Gauripur, Gandhi began his eighth and final day of the yatra in Assam by traveling a short distance in a sport utility vehicle before boarding a bus to Golakganj.

Many people were lining the path in hopes of catching a sight of the Congress MP.

"Hundreds of women had gathered at a panchayat office to pick up forms for a recently launched government project when he also made a visit there. The leader of the opposition, Debabrata Saikia, told PTI that "they came forward from the queue to greet the Congress leader, who spent some time with them."

Gandhi added that he took tea at a small booth in Golakganj town with other top politicians, where he spoke to people, mostly from the economically disadvantaged part.

The former Congress president is leading the yatra, which began on January 14 in Manipur and will end in Mumbai on March 20.

Starting on January 18, the march's Assam segment covered 833 kilometers over 17 districts.
