Buildings Along Puri's Grand Road to Get Single Color Paint Job

Every structure, residential or commercial, along the 2.5-kilometer-long Grand Road (Bada Danda), which links the Shree Gundicha Temple and the Puri Shree Jagannath Temple, a shrine dating back to the 12th century, will have its exterior painted a single color.

Shree Gundicha Temple is a frequent venue for events during the yearly Rath Yatra celebrations.

Before January 17, 2024, when state minister Naveen Patnaik will dedicate the Rs 800 crore Heritage Corridor project surrounding the 12th-century temple to the public, all structures along the 2.5 km-long boulevard would be painted a consistent color.

The Telegraph was informed by Puri's sub collector, Bhabatarana Sahu, that all buildings—private and public—will have a same color painted. Talks are underway to decide on the ultimate color.

According to sources, the government is demanding that a light pink color be applied to every structure. According to sources, the authorities selected the color from a list of twelve options. To persuade the stakeholders to embrace it, actions are being conducted.

"Everyone involved decided on a single color. However, there may be disagreements about the color selection. The opinions of the stakeholders must be respected. But before January 17th, the painting will be finished, according to Sahu.
