Rescue Operation Underway for Workers Trapped in Collapsed Tunnel in Uttarakhand

According to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday, rescue personnel are using pipes to provide water, food, oxygen, and words of comfort to laborers trapped in a partly collapsed mountain tunnel in Uttarakhand, although it would take some time to complete the operation.

Dhami informed reporters at the scene in the morning, "The rescue teams sent (written) messages to the trapped laborers through a pipe, assuring them they are safe, and received messages (saying the laborers are safe) from them."

A landslide caused a 60-meter section of the tunnel under construction in the Uttarkashi area to collapse, trapping around 36 laborers since Sunday morning.

Hume pipes, which were delivered today from Haridwar, were required by the rescuers. The issue is that additional material falls and fills the cleared area as soon as part of it is removed, according to Dhami.

Nevertheless, we have used a compressor to provide them water and food (gram and jaggery) via pipes. The laborers may roam about in the 200 meters of area on the opposite side of the tunnel, which is equipped with power.

During a press conference in the afternoon, Dhami hinted that it may take some more time to free the laborers, while also mentioning that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised full help over the phone.
