Calcutta Municipal Corporation Launches Water Infrastructure Projects Ahead of Elections
Series of Inaugurations and Foundation Stone Layings Planned for Booster Pumping Stations
Calcutta: The Calcutta Municipal Corporation (CMC) has scheduled a number of inaugurations and programs to build the groundwork for water reservoirs and booster pumping stations ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
On Thursday and Friday, three booster pumping stations/water reservoirs are set to open.
A pumping station in Behala Jaysree Park with a reservoir capacity of 10,000 liters is scheduled to open on Thursday.
On Friday, two booster pumping stations that double as reservoirs will be opened in the communities of Sarada Palli in Kasba and Subhas Palli in Garia. The Garia reservoir has a capacity of 3.2 million gallons, while the other one has a capacity of 13.6 lakh liters.
According to CMC representatives, work on the three booster pumping stations turned reservoirs began roughly two years ago. The official said, "Shortly after the inauguration, all the facilities will be operational."
Between Tuesday and Saturday, the foundation stone for four more booster pumping stations that double as reservoirs will be placed.
The four will appear in Garia on Raja SC Mullick Road, in Tollygunge on Haripada Dutta Lane, in Pashchim Barisha, and on Debabrata Biswas Sarani (Lake Terrace).
The communities' problems with water may not be entirely resolved by the additional stations, however. CMC officials said that unless sufficient water is available, the reservoirs may not operate at their maximum potential. The CMC is establishing a plant at New Garia and increasing the capacity of the Dhapa water treatment facility. However, it would take the facilities at least two years to come online.
