On Sunday, a traffic accident in Jalpaiguri claimed the life of a 61-year-old woman from the suburbs of Calcutta who was traveling to the Dooars with her family.
According to sources, a head-on collision occurred between an SUV transporting four visitors on a jungle safari to the district's Gorumara National Park and another SUV. Pratima Dey, a resident of North 24-Parganas' Madhyamgram, passed away.
"The tourist truck was traveling in the direction of the national park's Kalakhawa watchtower. Near Mahakaldham on the Chalsa-Maynaguri route, it struck the car, according to a Kranti police officer.
They were taken by a police squad to the Maynaguri block hospital.
The elderly woman was pronounced deceased by the on-call doctors. Others were transferred to Jalpaiguri's super-specialty hospital, according to Dibyendu Deb, a Lataguri Resort Owners' Association representative.
Premesh Kumar Mallick, Madhu Mallick, Mir Mallick, and driver Suman Kar among the injured.
