Ajay Maken Rejoins Congress Inner Circle, Appointed Treasurer by Mallikarjun Kharge

Ajay Maken was replaced by Pawan Bansal as the party's treasurer on Sunday by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, demonstrating the confidence the Gandhi family has in the former Union minister and general secretary.

Even after the Opposition alliance INDIA was formed, Maken, who left his job as general secretary in charge of Rajasthan under questionable circumstances, retained Rahul Gandhi's trust. Prior to the general elections in 2024, he was anticipated to receive a significant assignment, and he eventually accepted the position once held by the omnipotent Ahmed Patel.

Maken has rejoined the inner circle of the leadership with this position, joining K.C. Venugopal, Randeep Surjewala, and Jairam Ramesh. There were rumors that Maken might take over as head of the Delhi Congress, but that possibility was rejected in favor of Arvinder Singh Lovely by the central leadership. Evidently, the Congress desired a Delhi leader who was tolerant of the AAP.
