Bengal Minister Tajmul Hossain Seen Giving Gift to Police Officer, BJP Reacts

Malda: The Bengal minister Tajmul Hossain is shown in a video clip seeming to be giving a present to a uniformed Malda police officer. The video footage went viral on social media, prompting a strong response from the BJP.

Deodoot Gajmer, inspector-in-charge of the Harishchandrapur police station in the Malda district, is similar to the police officer in the video. In addition to holding the position of minister of state for MSME and textiles, Hossain is an MLA from Harishchandrapur.

The general secretary of the BJP Malda (South) district committee, Amlan Bhaduri, declared: "Under the Trinamul regime, the police and the ruling party have become synonymous." The police are forced to follow the orders of Trinamul officials whether or not they are handed presents."

According to reports, Minister Hossain was not in good health and could not be reached. His close associates acknowledged that on October 23, he gave the inspector a "Puja gift." "It was a shirt," an adviser to the minister said.

This reporter was unable to reach Gajmer via phone.

A police station official said that the minister made a "courtesy visit" to the station, whereupon "he greeted the inspector and other police personnel with bouquets on the occasion of Durja Puja". He responded, "I don't know whether he provided a shirt to the inspector.
