Goods Train Wagon Derails Near Harishchandrapur Railway Station in Malda

Monday midday saw a goods train wagon derrail and topple close to the Harishchandrapur railway station in Malda.

Trinamul has questioned the safety standards of the railroads given the recent series of track incidents, despite the fact that the disaster did not impair routine train travel or result in any injuries.

According to railway authorities, on Monday a freight train loaded with stone chips was moving from Pakur in Jharkhand to Katihar in Bihar. It arrived at the Malda station at Harischandrapur for its load to be weighed.

At the Harischandrapur station, a train wagon derailed at that very moment.

According to a source, "the incident occurred when the train was changing track from the side track to the main line near the west rail gate."

Officials from the railway, the GRP, and the RPF hurried over to the accident scene.

"We are investigating the incident," a railway representative said.

According to GRP sub-inspector Anup Tiwary, "no one was injured in the incident."

Railway authorities went on to say that the incident had no effect on train traffic since the freight train was traveling on the side tracks and was going to switch tracks.

Trinamul politician Sabina Yeasmin, a minister of state in the North Bengal development department, responded to the catastrophe by saying, "Railroad accidents have been happening recently one after another." These kinds of occurrences show that more has to be done to improve railway safety.

The minister said, "In the public interest, the central government should prioritize railway services and safety rather than abusing its agencies to intimidate political opponents."

A month ago, just in time, a cave-in beneath the railway rails near Harischandrapur's Bhaluka Road station prevented the Kanchenjunga Express from being involved in an accident.
