Former Trinamul Congress Leader Assassinated in Broad Daylight: Police Investigate Motive

Three unidentified individuals here on Sunday afternoon assassinated Sattyen Chowdhury, a realtor and former general secretary of the Trinamul Congress for Murshidabad.

At around 2:15 p.m., Chowdhury, who was in his early sixties, was seated on a chair in a public area in front of his home in Chaltiya, close to Behrampore. Three people on a motorbike approached him and fired four rounds, striking him in the head, neck, chest, and belly.

Chowdhury was sent to the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital and was pronounced dead.

"We still haven't identified the offenders. Police are looking into and reviewing CCTV video from a hospital in the area. Additional District Police Chief S.A. Khan said, "We are looking into every avenue to determine the reason behind the murder."

It is harder for us to identify the attackers since they wore masks and mufflers over their faces. We are attempting to investigate both political and business-related aspects since the motivation for the murder is yet unknown, an investigating officer said.

According to party sources, Chowdhury, who was once an active member of Trinamul, broke away from the organisation after failing to get a Behrampore Trinamul ticket for the 2021 Assembly elections.

He has now shifted his attention to his real estate company.

Chief of the Trinamul district unit Apurba Sarkar said, "We hope the police will find the people responsible for this horrible crime."

Chowdhury was originally said to be connected to Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and began his political career with the Congress. According to insiders, he had a tense relationship with the Behrampore MP after joining Trinamul, despite having run for office on a Congress platform.

The Congress MP responded to the murder by saying, "He was known to me." Stop the death and carnage by apprehending the perpetrators."
