GTA Initiates Triveni Campground Restoration after Teesta Flood: Road Repair Underway
Efforts to Revive Triveni Site for Tourists and Rafting Enthusiasts
On Saturday, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) began restoration work close to Kalimpong's Triveni campground.
Among other things, the road leading to the site had been harmed by the October 4th flash flood.
"We have committed to repairing the damaged section of the two-kilometer road that will link Teesta Bazar and the Triveni campground in a month. On Saturday, work got underway. Huge silt deposits will be removed as soon as the road is ready, according to Norden Sherpa, the GTA executive member for tourism, who made the announcement on Sunday.
On Saturday, Sherpa and the hill body's executive director, Sonam Bhutia, also examined Triveni, which is about 55 km away.
Situated at the meeting point of the Teesta and Rangeet rivers, Triveni is a well-liked tourist destination, particularly for rafting enthusiasts.
About 500 people at the Triveni site lost their livelihoods as a result of the Teesta flood, according to Ashish Thapa, the chief of the Triveni Camping Welfare Association.
"We have reported losses to the GTA, the district office, and the Rangli-Rangliot administrative block office. We hope that camping at Triveni can resume soon now that the GTA has started restoration work, Thapa said.
Rafting won't start again until the Indian army and the district administration give their approval, according to a GTA official.
