Brick Kiln Tragedy in West Bengal: 3 Killed, 30+ Injured in Chimney Collapse
Rescue Efforts Ongoing as Workers Buried Under Debris; Cause of Collapse Under Investigation
At least three workers lost their lives and over thirty were wounded when the chimney of a brick kiln collapsed in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, according to police reports.
The tragedy happened on Wednesday night when the brick kiln was in use in Dhaltitah hamlet in Basirhat.
"Everyone hurt in the incident was a brick kiln employee. Two corpses were discovered from beneath the rubble, and one victim passed away while receiving care at a local hospital, according to a police officer.
"The Basirhat Hospital is treating around twenty patients. Due to the extreme criticalness of their conditions, two wounded people were sent to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata," he said.
Hafizul Mondal, a local, was the third casualty. Of the dead, two were identified as Jethuram and Rakesh Kumar from Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh.
A sizable police squad has been sent in to assist with the current rescue mission, which is aimed at freeing trapped personnel from the rubble.
An inquiry will be carried out to uncover the events leading up to this unfortunate tragedy, since the reason of the chimney collapse is yet unknown.
