The Parekh family has returned and they're as wacky as ever, but Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan finds it difficult to produce the same type of hilarious moments that defined the first TV series.

Invented by Aatish Kapadia and Jamnadas Majethia (who portrays Himanshu), Khichdi had its television premiere in 2002 and quickly gained popularity. With the release of Khichdi: The Movie in 2010 and the second season of Instant Khichdi in 2004, the laugh-filled adventure with the Parekh family continues.

Khichdi2: Assignment Aatish Kapadia's second film, Paanthukistan, brings us back to the cherished Parekh family after a 13-year hiatus thanks to a complicated narrative that sometimes verges on the ridiculous.

At the request of TIA (Thodi Intelligent Agency) agent Kushal (Anant Vidhaat), Hansa (Supriya Pathak), Jayshree (Vandana Pathak), Praful (Rajeev Mehta), Babuji (Anang Desai), and Himanshu (Jamnadas Majethia) set out on a mission to save an Indian scientist from the clutches of the king of Paanthukistan. Praful looks a lot like Imam Kha Ke Thuk, the ruler of Paanthukistan, who is also portrayed by Rajeev Mehta. Thus, the TIA wants to dispatch the Parekhs on this dangerous assignment.

As the plan is carried out, Praful is concealed in a box and Hansa, Himanshu, Jayshree, and Babuji pretend to be documentary filmmakers visiting Paanthukistan. Himanshu's plan included giving the monarch, Imam Kha Ke Thuk, a meal laced with poison to induce unconsciousness, allowing Praful to don his attire and assume the role of the ruler.

The scientist Makhanwala (Paresh Ganatra), who is being kept hostage by Imam Kha Ke Thuk, must then be located by the Parekhs. The Parekhs are responsible for making sure that Makhanwala's hazardous robot stays out of the wrong hands. However simple the plan may seem, you can always count on the Parekhs to screw it up, getting caught up in a web of blunders in Paanthukistan and almost losing their objective.

The 2010 Khichdi movie was notable for its clever banter and the performers' easy friendship. Some of its most notable moments were Satish Shah's appearance as Yamraj, iconic Hindi song parodies performed during the burial scene, and a boisterous court scene in which Hansa portrayed a lawyer.

Even while Khichdi 2 is able to maintain the connection amongst its primary characters, it lacks a steady comedy beat and instead consists of isolated humorous moments. One of the causes is the rambling script, written by Sourav Ghosh and Aatish Kapadia, which concentrates on creating a lavish adventure for the Parekhs and several subplots rather than the situational humor for which the TV series is renowned.

There are occasional giggles as the Parekh family goes on helicopter flights, goes on chases in the desert, and even performs a lavish Bollywood dance performance. However, they also go to the Swiss Alps. The most memorable lines from Khichdi 2 are reminiscent of the hit TV show's language, such as Hansa's questioning about the meaning of English phrases and Jayshree's incessant phone conversations with her "Baa" despite extreme hardship.

As always, Supriya Pathak's cast provides a strong performance. Pathak's relaxed performance really comes through in some instances. Rajeev Menhta does a good job playing both Praful and Imam Kha Ke Thuk. Anang Desai as Babuji, Vandana Pathak as Jayshree, and Jamnadas Majethia as Himanshu are all excellent. Maybe they can all play their parts in sleep by now.

The first scene, in which Pratik Gandhi plays a pilot, is the most representative of the original program among the cameos. But, considering that Kirti Kulhari plays Himanshu's wife Parminder in Khichdi 2, a movie in which her role was crucial, her little screen time in Khichdi 2 seems inappropriate for the love number. Not even Farah Khan's return to the Parekh family as a director teaching acting fails to leave an impression.
