Since its publication in 1892, Nobel winner Rabindranath Tagore's immortal short novel Kabuliwala has captivated readers of all ages. It was immortalized on celluloid by Tapan Sinha in 1957, and now, 66 years later, Suman Ghosh is about to resurrect the magic in a new rendition.
As the beloved Kabuliwala Rahmat, whose endearing connection with Mini—played by young performer Anumegha Kahali—forms the central theme of the story—Mithun takes on the role of Rahmat. Renowned Bengali actor Chhabi Biswas starred in the original 1957 film, which became a cult classic due to its accurate adaptation of Tagore's writings.
"As an actor and director, as well as a personal friend, Mithunda and I are close. For me, Mithunda evokes a feeling, filmmaker Suman Ghosh recently stated to The Telegraph Online. It was Mithunda that I imagined when I created the character of Rahmat. I was pretty clear that I wanted to work with Mithunda on the film. However, he was ill and wasn't shooting movies, Suman had revealed.
