According to a media report, the relatives of the victims of the tragic fire in the southern Ahmadi Governorate that claimed 50 lives, including 46 Indians, will get USD 15,000 each from the Kuwaiti government.

According to Kuwaiti authorities, an electrical short circuit in the ground floor guard room of a seven-story building in Mangaf on July 12 ignited a major fire across the building.

196 migrant workers—mostly Indians—lived in the building.

The relatives of the victims would get USD 15,000 (about Rs 12.5 lakh) in compensation, per directives from Kuwait's Emir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Arab Times daily said on Tuesday.

The publication stated that the compensation money will be processed and sent to the victims' embassies, citing official sources.

The identities of one victim remains unknown, and three other deceased were Filipinos.

According to the article, the concerned embassies would make sure that the money is given to the relatives of the fire victims, speeding up the process and guaranteeing that the relief reaches the families of the victims effectively.

"This financial aid aims to support the bereaved families during this difficult time," said the publication.

The families of Indian nationals who perished in the big fire were to receive compensation of Rs 2 lakh each, according to the Indian government.

The Kerala government said last week that it will give the families of the state's citizens who perished in the fire disaster financial support totaling Rs 5 lakh.

Among the Indian victims of the tragedy were twenty-four Malayalis.

The incident is now the subject of an inquiry by Kuwait's public prosecutor. According to the public prosecutor on X, the investigation's goals are to determine what caused the fatal fire and the circumstances surrounding it.

Following the fire event, a number of foreign individuals as well as a Kuwaiti national have been taken into custody on suspicion of homicide and inflicting injuries due to negligent security and safety protocols.
