According to an official, a team of eight Punjab Police officers would accompany imprisoned 'Waris Punjab De' activist Amritpal Singh to New Delhi so he could be sworn in as a Member of Parliament.

For the swearing-in, Singh, the winner of the Lok Sabha elections from Punjab's Khadoor Sahib constituency, has been allowed four days of parole.

Arriving here on Thursday afternoon, the police team, commanded by a Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)-rank official, is expected to transport Singh, who is being held at Dibrugarh Central Jail, to New Delhi on a special flight under strict security ahead of his swearing-in on Friday.

Singh's attorney, Rajdev Singh Khalsa, stated that a "military aircraft" will transport him to Delhi for the swearing-in.

Strict parole restrictions apply to Singh, preventing him and his family from speaking in public while in New Delhi.

Furthermore, it is expressly forbidden to use any kind of media coverage, including videography or the distribution of comments.

Singh has also been told not to take part in any actions that could jeopardize national security.

The SSP, Amritsar (Rural) would be in charge of the security detail's deployment throughout his interim parole and stay in Delhi.

Following his election victory last month, his wife Kirandeep Kaur and parents Tarsem Singh and Balwinder Kaur visited the imprisoned activist at Dibrugarh Central jail.

Laljit Singh Bhullar of the AAP finished third, while Amritpal, an Independent, defeated Kulbir Singh Zira of the Congress to win the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat by 1,97,120 votes.

The imprisoned activist received 4,04,430 votes, compared to 2,07,310 for Zira and 1,94,836 for Bhullar.

Following a crackdown on the outfit, ten members of the group—including Amritpal and one of his uncles—were arrested under the National Security Act and taken into custody from various locations in Punjab. They have been detained in jail since last year.
