Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, said on Friday that the Hathras stampede event, which claimed over 100 lives, had administrative errors, but he refrained from calling it "political".

After visiting with the victims of the Friday morning stampede in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, Gandhi told reporters, "It is a matter of grief that so many families have suffered, so many people lost their lives." The senior leader of Congress stated, "I don't want to speak through a political prism, but there have been some lapses on the part of the administration."

He met the relatives of those who perished in the stampede in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday morning.

Along with state Congress leader Ajay Rai, state Congress in-charge Avinash Pande, party spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, and other office bearers, Gandhi departed Delhi early on Friday morning by road for Hathras.

Gandhi got to Hathras' Green Park in Vibhav Nagar area at around nine in the morning.

Gandhi met with families within the park escorted by local district president Chandragupta Vikramaditya and leader of the UP Congress Rai.

Tuesday's stampede at the satsang of self-styled godman Baba Bhole in Hathras claimed the lives of 121 individuals, the most of whom were women.
