Court Extends Judicial Custody of CM Kejriwal’s Aide Bibhav Kumar

Judicial Custody of CM Kejriwal’s Aide Bibhav Kumar Extended

The judicial custody of Bibhav Kumar, an aide to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has been extended until June 22 by a local court on Saturday. Kumar is accused of assaulting AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal on May 13 at the Chief Minister’s official residence.

Kumar was produced before the duty metropolitan magistrate through video conferencing, who then extended the custody and instructed the Delhi Police to present him on June 22.

On the previous day, Friday, the court had extended Kumar’s custody by one day, noting the absence of the investigating officer (IO).

Kumar was arrested on May 18 and was sent to police custody for five days on the same day by a magisterial court. The court observed that his anticipatory bail plea had become infructuous due to his arrest.

On May 24, he was sent to judicial custody for four days, after which he was again remanded in police custody for three days.

An FIR was registered against Kumar on May 16 under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to criminal intimidation, assault or criminal force on a woman with the intent to disrobe, and attempt to commit culpable homicide.
