PM Modi Accuses Opposition of Silence on Bengal Flogging Incident in Rajya Sabha
Narendra-Modi

On Wednesday, Narendra Modi brought up the flogging of a young person and a woman in Chopra, Bengal, in the Rajya Sabha and accused the national opposition of being silent about crimes against women that happened in the state that is governed by the Trinamool Congress.

"I'm not talking for political points, nor am I talking against any state. However, a while back, I noticed some images on social media that appeared to be from Bengal. a film. The Prime Minister stated in the Rajya Sabha, "A woman is being publicly beaten up on the road," to applause from the Treasury benches.

"That sister can be seen calling out, but nobody nearby steps forward to assist—instead they are taking recordings. The photographs of the incident that happened at Sandeshkhali give you chills. However, Modi continued, "I have been listening to the big, big diggaj (people of standing/behemoths) since yesterday; the pain for this is not even perceptible in their words."

The Treasury benches retorted, "Shame! Shame!" once more.

Following the viral social media video of the flogging, Tajemul Islam, also known as JCB, the primary accused, was taken into custody. In the video, a person who looked like JCB was seen beating the young person and the woman for what appeared to be an adulterous affair with multiple sticks.

Last week, there was an incident at Chopra in the North Dinajpur district. Tajemul, a close colleague of Chopra MLA Hamidul Rahaman, was taken into police custody and placed under arrest.

The leaders of the Trinamool Party wrote to Jagdeep Dhankhar, the chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, requesting that Modi withdraw his comments about Chopra and Sandeshkhali, two Bengali communities that the saffron ecosystem has been observed attempting to politically exploit, mainly because the main offenders in both cases are religiously identifiable.

Modi's repeated use of Sandeshkhali, which he and other BJP members had utilized as a key campaign tactic for Bengal, showed that he was not ready to give up on the issue despite its glaring lack of electoral success.

"It is a national tragedy that, even in these delicate situations, politics becomes entangled, causing the people of this country—especially its women—to suffer unspeakable suffering," he declared.

He went on, "This selective ravaiya (attitude) of the Opposition on the atrocities against women, this selective ravaiya is very worrisome," given that his speech was being harshly contested and interrupted by INDIA for the second day in a row. With 29 MPs, Trinamool is the third-largest constituency in the Lok Sabha. With 13 representatives, Trinamool is the second-largest INDIA constituent in the Rajya Sabha.

Is there a more heartbreaking image of guilt than this one? And even those who saw themselves as extremely significant, forward-thinking female leaders? He stated, "Sealed their lips and sat down!" following a week of scathing criticism from female MPs, including Mahua Moitra of the Trinamool party.

"Because that state or a certain party has a relationship that is a part of their political lives." And as a result, you'll keep quiet about crimes against women, right? inquired of the Prime Minister.

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister, has not yet made a public statement on the matter. She has been disciplining Chopra harshly behind the scenes on both the political and administrative fronts. Trinamool spokespersons and senior leaders have denounced the Chopra incident. Mamata was expected to break her public quiet at an event on Thursday, according to party insiders.

"It seems like even the diggaj ignore things like this. Modi stated, "Our moms and sisters suffer greater sorrow than the nation as a whole.

Trinamool gave a scornful reply.

Rajya Sabha member Sagarika Ghose, who sent the letter of complaint to Dhankhar, wrote on X, saying, "His (Modi's) bombast in Parliament is a cover for the hard reality that his credibility is gone, his brand of hate-filled politics has been rejected and he is now an electoral liability."

She stated, paraphrasing parts of Modi's speech, that the Bengal had "zero tolerance" for crimes against women and that the people responsible for Chopra's death were apprehended right after.

"The entire incident was nothing but a disgraceful conspiracy by the BJP to defame the people of Bengal," Ghose stated in reference to Sandeshkhali.

"...the Prime Minister shall present the full picture of the circumstances, without drawing any conclusions from them, when he speaks on the House floor. She went on, "The Prime Minister should not mistreat the public by abusing his constitutional position. "Therefore, I humbly ask that the remarks be removed."

The chief spokesperson for the Congress state unit, Soumya Aich Roy, and Rajya Sabha member Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya, who is the sole MP from the CPM for Bengal, essentially agreed when they said that Mamata's criticism of Chopra and Sandeshkhali was full of belligerence.
