Abhishek Banerjee Calls Trinamul Organizational Meeting Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

The national general secretary and member of parliament for Trinamul, Abhishek Banerjee, has chosen to call a large organizational meeting with his party's leadership down to the block level on February 16 in anticipation of the Lok Sabha elections.

The decision made by the Diamond Harbour MP is noteworthy because it represents his first organized activity on a statewide scale in a long time. It also followed months of discussions about the growing gulf between the "old guard" and the "new lot," culminating in a long overdue meeting with chief minister and Trinamul supremo Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday.

On February 16, starting at 3 p.m., Abhishek—who has seldom been seen at political events unrelated to his Lok Sabha seat since Durga Puja last year—will essentially meet with every member of his party, including MPs, MLAs, and block presidents.

"Very relieved," a Trinamul source said. The insider, who had been suffering from anxiety over the harm being done by the protracted debate over the rift, said, "We (at Trinamul) are finally freeing ourselves from that unbearable state of limbo that our poll campaign launch was ensnared in, because of the succession struggle, reflected in the sordid old-versus-new debate."

In reference to the almost two-hour discussion between Mamata and Abhishek at her Kalighat home on Tuesday, he said, "This decision makes it clearer that there was substantial agreement achieved on things that matter most."

More rumors about what happened between the nephew-aunt duopoly grew after their encounter, which took place amidst alleged animosity between the two and their cliques in the senior leadership. According to sources, the two had spoken about how the Trinamul campaign for the Lok Sabha elections needed to be started quickly and spectacularly, in addition to Rajya Sabha nominations for the election on February 27.

According to a Trinamul MP, Abhishek would present the strategic guidelines for the Lok Sabha campaign during the meeting on February 16. Mamata and Abhishek had a lengthy discussion about them on Tuesday.

"He is likely to focus on the need to prioritize issues like the BJP-led Centre's stepmotherly treatment of Bengal, the saffron regime's anti-people policies that are ruining this country, and how the state government led by Trinamul has benefited everyone through development and welfare initiatives," the MP stated.

He claimed that in order to polarize voters in order to win elections, Abhishek will specifically warn against the harm caused by religious, divisive politics of hate against the BJP.

He'll also emphasize the need of uniting against the saffron tsunami, which is probably going to go all out in Bengal. He said, "He will emphasize how important it is to put aside personal grievances for the party, at least for the time being.

According to a Trinamul source, Mamata's attempt to talk to Abhishek on Tuesday about Trinamul's Rajya Sabha candidates was effective.
