Due to the declining quality of the air in these two major cities, the BCCI has prohibited the use of fireworks during the remaining World Cup matches in Delhi and Mumbai.

Mumbai is scheduled to host two more league games on November 2 and November 7, as well as the semifinal on November 15. Delhi only has one more match to host, the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka game on November 6.

"BCCI is cognizant of environmental issues. There won't be any fireworks displays in Mumbai, which could raise the pollution level, according to a statement released on Wednesday by BCCI secretary Jay Shah. I have officially brought up this issue with the ICC.

"The Board is dedicated to addressing environmental concerns and will consistently prioritize the needs of our supporters and interested parties. The BCCI recognizes that the quality of the air in Mumbai and New Delhi is an immediate concern.

"We are committed to putting the health and safety of all our stakeholders first, even as we work to host the ICC World Cup in a way that honors the game of cricket." With an air quality index (AQI) of 372 on Wednesday, Delhi's air quality was classified as "very poor" for the fifth day in a row.

Mumbai's pollution situation has also been concerning.

On Tuesday, the Bombay High Court took suo motu (on its own) cognizance of the matter and voiced concern over Mumbai's "deteriorating" air quality index.
