Another guy from Chennai was taken into custody by the Bengal police's Special Task Force (STF) on Friday due to his suspected affiliations with terror groups based in Bangladesh. Since last Sunday, there have been three arrests in this case.

Sheikh Anwar, 27, a Class III dropout who lived in Kulshona hamlet in Mangalkote, East Burdwan, once worked in a laundry in Chennai, according to STF sources. After questioning the detained men Heraz Sheikh and Muhammad Habibulla, the STF claimed to have obtained Anwar's name.


In 2020, Anwar became friends with Habibulla and Heraz during a religious event in Katwa. Anwar was appeared at the ACJM court in Durgapur on Saturday after being transported there on transit remand. He was placed in police custody for a period of two weeks by the court.

"For the previous four years, Anwar had communication with Islamist terror groups based in Bangladesh. Although he lives in East Burdwan, he works at a laundry in Chennai, according to an STF representative.

He claimed that Anwar gave Habibulla and Heraz the idea to join the Shahadat Bengal module of the Islamist terrorist organization based in Bangladesh.

The STF detained Muhammad Habibulla, 20, a second-year Mankar College computer science student, on Saturday night at his Mirpara home. Heraz, a Mayapur, Nadia, inhabitant, was taken into custody on Tuesday outside the Howrah train station.
