India's five-match Twenty20 International series against Australia will begin on Thursday in Visakhapatnam, with Suryakumar Yadav leading the team.
Given that the bulk of the ODI World Cup team was rested and that all-rounder Hardik Pandya was still recovering from an ankle injury, Surya appeared like the best candidate to lead the team.
For the last two Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) at Raipur and Bangalore on December 1 and 3, respectively, Shreyas Iyer will be joining the team as vice-captain.
Axar Patel, an all-round spinner who missed the World Cup because of a quadriceps issue, is back in the team along with Bengal fast Mukesh Kumar and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
The roster also includes quicks Avesh Khan and Prasidh Krishna (who replaced Pandya in the ODI Cup squad), leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, off-spinner all-rounder Washington Sundar, and quicks Avesh Khan.
