Jharkhand High Court dismisses Hemant Soren's plea against ED summons

Chief Minister Hemant Soren's petition against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoning him for suspected money laundering allegations in the Ranchi land scam case was denied by the Jharkhand High Court on Friday.

The plea was denied by a division bench consisting of Chief Justice Sanjay Mishra and Justice Anand Sen, who stated that the petition could not be maintained for two reasons.

First of all, since there are no more pending summonses and the challenged summons' life has ended, the appeal to set aside the ED summons had become futile. A senior attorney from the Jharkhand Advocate General's team who attended the proceedings stated, "Secondly, on the issue of challenging sections 50 and 63 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the court observed that the Supreme Court has already decided on the issue (in a separate case of Vijay Madan Lal Chaudhary)."

Soren has ignored five ED summonses to appear for questioning; the most recent one called for him to do so on October 4.
