Karan Johar Slams Offensive Troll, Stands Against Regressive Notions on Social Media
Director Condemns Misguided Comments about 'Daughter-in-law' as Regressive and Offensive
Cinematographer Karan Johar retaliated against a troll who asked the 51-year-old to purchase a "daughter-in-law" for his mother, referring to the remark as one of the most "offensive" ones on social media because it carries "ridiculous regressive baggage."
The remark in question implied that Karan's mother must find it difficult to pass the time when she is by herself and suggested that Karan should bring her a daughter-in-law. Johar shot back with a forceful statement, dismissing the notion that having a daughter-in-law is just a hobby.
"I find comments like these the most offensive of all the crazy trolls, the abuse and judgment I get about my life choices and my way of being," Karan posted on his Instagram stories.
He went on, "Firstly, no 'bahu' should be a time pass for anyone's mother... a 'bahu' is a label which comes with ridiculous regressive baggage... she is an individual in her own right and can pass her time how she likes personally and professionally."
The director continued by emphasizing the important role that his mother plays in both his and his children's lives. He wrote, "My mother co-parents my children with me and doesn't need any 'time pass'... her life is complete by the love we receive from her, and we do our best to give it back with all our heart," stressing that he would only date someone to satisfy his own needs rather than anyone else's.
In the past, Karan has expressed his anger towards the trolling that erupted after the premiere of Koffee With Karan Season 8, which starred Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.
"I thought it was one of our best episodes. They were very gracious, very honest, very sincere, and they poured their hearts out. After that, people start talking about unrelated topics. What authority do they have to snoop around in people's marriages and personal lives? He had stated, "They ought to concentrate on their own lives."
