Mamata Banerjee defends Sanatana Dharma, says India is about unity in diversity

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of Bengal, responded to a query on Udhayanidhi Stalin's remarks on Sanatana Dharma on Monday by stating that every religion has its own feelings and that India is about unity in variety.

"I have the utmost respect and admiration for the Tamil Nadu and southern Indian people. However, I humbly ask that you respect everyone, since each faith has unique emotions. India is a democratic and secular nation. In India, diversity and togetherness coexist, she said.

Mamata responded to Udhayanidhi's remark by saying, "He is a junior and may not be aware of it.

"From my perspective, I'm not sure why and on what basis he made his remarks. I believe that every faith ought to be honored equally. I uphold Sanatana Dharma, and the Vedas are where we get our philosophical foundation.

According to Mamata, Hindu priests get pensions from the Bengali government. "There are so many temples throughout the nation. We go to churches, mosques, and temples. She emphasized that we shouldn't become engaged in anything that could harm a certain group of people.
