Mamata Banerjee Rallies Against CAA, Urges Voter Registration in Bengal

One of the cornerstones of the BJP's campaign for the Lok Sabha election, chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Tuesday that the party would oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which it claims to be implementing at any moment.

In order to prevent any mischief by the saffron ecosystem, Mamata advised people to make sure their names were on the voting list.

"Avoid having your names removed from the list of voters. If you do this, the BJP will be able to yell CAA CAA and have your name removed (as a citizen of this nation). Please go and register your name if it is not on the voter list. At a state government event of government benefit distribution in Jaynagar, South 24-Parganas, Mamata told a gathering, "You have to take it very seriously."

You are aware of our methods for carrying out the NRC (National Register of Citizens) movement. You saw our opposition to CAA. People will not be divided by them. "I refuse to submit to the BJP," she continued.

Mamata issued her enrollment directive after the Election Commission of India's postponement of the final electoral roll publication deadline to January 22, the day of the Ayodhya Ram temple's opening. January 5 was the previous deadline for publishing.

Reportedly, governing Trinamul gave its party workers instructions to make the most of this additional time to make sure that no voter is overlooked.

Many think that Mamata was able to solidify minority support in the 2021 Assembly elections because to Trinamul's opposition to the CAA.

A Trinamul leader said that Mamata intends to carry out such action once again as the BJP is ready to step up its campaign against the CAA. Bengali people are always terrified of the CAA's implementation. The public gathering took place in South 24-Parganas, an area that is home to a sizable minority community as well as Hindu immigrants from Bangladesh. She set the tone for the party's campaign in the Lok Sabha elections by bringing up the Jaynagar meeting issue, the leader said.

On December 11, 2019, the CAA was approved by Parliament, allowing non-Muslim immigrants from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan to get Indian citizenship more quickly.

Amit Shah, the Union home minister, has pledged to see to it that the legislation is carried out in Bengal.

It is Mamata Banerjee who is against the CAA. I want to let her know that the CAA is a law in our nation, and nobody can prevent its execution. Shah said, "I will make sure of this," on November 29 at a public gathering in Calcutta.

Leaders of Trinamul felt that the BJP's push for CAA will only help them win the votes of minority groups in the Lok Sabha elections.

"It would help us win more votes the more they (the BJP) push for the CAA. A Trinamul politician in Calcutta said, "The people of Bengal have never wanted any such act that would divide people."

On the other hand, BJP officials pledged to persuade Bengalis of the need of the CAA in order to protect the state from infiltration, particularly from Bangladesh.

Bengal needs the CAA to make sure the state doesn't become Bangladesh or Pakistan. As the governing party used the infiltration to expand its support base, it intensified under the Trinamul government, having begun during the Left's term. It is our hope that Bengalis would see the value of the CAA. The top spokesman for the BJP in the state, Samik Bhattacharya, said that the people of the state no longer trust Mamata.

central organizations

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister, said on Tuesday that plays were prearranged by federal authorities in order to detain leaders of her party before the election.

"The (central) agency now governs via the central government. In order to detain our leaders, they are putting on a premeditated play. The BJP believes that detaining leaders of my party will provide them an electoral advantage. It's not that simple," she said.

Mamata also said that the CBI investigating the Bogtui massacre in Birbhum did not provide a family with a seizure list allowing them to seize cash and other belongings after the death of an accused while in their care.
