Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon has refuted claims that the England Test team's aggressive style of cricket, known as "Bazball," has changed the sport.

Lyon, who is only four wickets short of 500 in Test cricket, claimed that he did not witness "Bazball" during the two Ashes matches he played in this year before suffering an injury that kept him out of the other three.

After Brendon McCullum, also known as Baz, was named England Test coach last year, the term "Bazball" was born.

"I'm happy because I'm 2-0 against Bazball," Lyon jokingly said on Channel 7's Front Bar show. "It's a bunch of shit, in my opinion. The English wish to stick with this style of cricket. It's now included in the dictionary, which is quite remarkable.

Lyon has already made fun of "Bazball." The Australian highlighted that aggression was nothing new by using his teammate David Warner as one example. Aggression, according to him, is the capacity to change gears throughout a Test match.

"Although I'm aware that Bazball is a topic of constant discussion, I didn't actually see Bazball. during both of my tests with them.

"I consider the batsmen we've had on the Australian cricket team, like David Warner. He can score hundreds of runs in a session when he plays an attacking style of cricket, as I have witnessed.

If I'm being really honest with you, I believe that Bazball is a lot of smoke and mirrors. If you want to play an aggressive style of cricket, though, you need to be able to shift gears quickly and recognize key moments in the match, he continued.

After this year's five-match series finished at 2-2, Australia had managed to hold onto the Ashes.
