TMC is associated with treachery, dynastic politics, and atrocities: Reports: PM Modi visited Krishnanagar, Bengal At the unveiling of a series of government projects valued at Rs 15,000 crore in Krishnanagar, Nadia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told PTI that the government has been working for the last 10 years to close the development gap in Bengal.

"Despite all of its potential, Bengal's growth did not go in the desired path after independence. We've made an effort to change direction," Modi said.

The Prime Minister laid the cornerstones for future infrastructure projects and inaugurated ones worth Rs 15,000 crore on Saturday.

"Previously, it would take four hours to go from Farakka to Raigunj. It can now be finished in two hours. The people of Malda town, Sujapur, and Kaliachak would also benefit from this, according to Modi.

"We are moving closer to being a developed West Bengal today. I inaugurated and laid the groundwork for projects totaling Rs 7,000 crore yesterday. Among the endeavors were development projects pertaining to ports, railroads, and petroleum. Again today, I'm breaking ground and launching projects valued at Rs 15,000 crore," Modi said.

"These projects will provide momentum to West Bengal's economic growth and create job opportunities," he said.

West Bengal, according to Modi, serves as India's "eastern gate".

"This gate has the potential to become the entry point of development in the east," he said.

"Our govt is developing infrastructure for connectivity via roadways, railways, waterways, and airways in the region," he said.

In the Purulia district, the PM dedicated the Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station Phase II (2x660 mw) of Damodar Valley Corporation.

At Mejia Thermal Power Station, he turned on the flue gas desulfurization (FGD) technology, which cost Rs 650 crore to create.

"A key component that propels the growth of any economic sector is electricity. Our goal is for West Bengal to become self-sufficient in energy for both its current and future demands," he said.

"A milestone in that direction is the establishment of Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station's second phase. Over Rs 11,000 crore in investments would come to the state via this effort, the speaker said.

Additionally, Modi opened the four-laning of the NH-12's 100-kilometer, Rs 1,986 crore Farakka-Raiganj stretch.

He committed four rail projects in the state valued at over Rs 940 crore to the country. According to an official release, they include the doubling of the Bazarsau-Azimganj rail line, the third line between Rampurhat and Murarai, the doubling of the Damodar-Mohishila line, and the construction of a new line that will link Azimganj and Murshidabad.

According to the PM, West Bengal used to be proud of its railway system.

"But this legacy was not carried forward, and the state lagged behind," he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi drove by a hoodless car at a public rally site in Krishnanagar, West Bengal, waving to the assembled throng.

In the car with him were Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of the Opposition in Assembly, and Sukanta Majumdar, the state president of the BJP.

He is expected to speak at a Krishnanagar public assembly.
