Leading the Congressman Rahul Gandhi's "Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra," the trip came to an end on Thursday in Assam as it passed through this Golakganj and proceeded into West Bengal for the next part.

Gandhi began his eighth and final day of the yatra in Assam with a short ride in a sport utility vehicle before boarding a bus to go to Golakganj after his overnight stop in Gauripur.

There were a lot of people waiting along the road to see the Congress Member of Parliament.

He also made a visit at a panchayat office, where a large number of women had gathered to pick up paperwork related to a recently announced government programme. Opposition Leader Debabrata Saikia told PTI, "They moved forward from the line to welcome the Congress leader, who spent some time with them."

After having tea at a small booth in Golakganj town with other top politicians, Gandhi stated he met a lot of people there, most of whom were from the economically disadvantaged part.

The yatra, which is being led by the former president of the Congress, began on January 14 in Manipur and will end in Mumbai on March 20.

Starting on January 18, the march covered 833 miles across 17 districts in Assam.
