India has yet to win a Test series in South Africa, which should inspire players like captain Rohit Sharma and captain Virat Kohli to perform at their highest level. After taking a break from the white-ball format following the World Cup, both players will be joining the team again.

Rahul Dravid, the head coach, acknowledged that South Africa is a difficult place to bat. The two Tests are scheduled for December 26 and January 3, respectively, in Centurion and Cape Town.

The white-ball team is scheduled to depart from Mumbai early on Wednesday morning.

India won the first Test of the final Test series in 2021–2022, but the home team rallied to win the next two in Johannesburg and Cape Town, completing a 2-1 series victory.

"Batting is difficult in South Africa. It's one of the hardest places to bat, according to the statistics, especially in the Centurion and Johannesburg Highveld areas. On the Star Sports program Follow the Blues, Dravid said, "The wickets too tend to do a bit... up and down."

Each batsman will have a different strategy depending on how they want to approach the situation and how they are currently training. We don't want everyone to play the same way, so that's okay.

"We want them to know exactly what works for them and act in that way going forward. The head coach said, "The boys understand that a lot of it is mental, so if we approach it in a way that lets anyone get set, then let him make it a match-winning contribution."

India plays three Twenty20 Internationals, the same number of ODIs, and two Tests to start the tour.

After suffering injuries, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Jasprit Bumrah will return to the Test team. Cheteshwar Pujara was left out and Ajinkya Rahane was dropped.

Mohammed Shami is also back, though his inclusion is contingent on his fitness. Shami was rested for India's most recent Test series in the West Indies in July.
