An air ambulance was used to transport two pilgrims from the Gangasagar Mela after they were hospitalized and admitted to MR Bangur Hospital in Tollygunge on Friday.

Sumitra Devi, 55, of Sitamarhi, Bihar, was reportedly waiting outside the Kapil Muni Ashram in the fairground when she began to feel ill after puking once, according to senior officials. She was moved by volunteers to a nearby medical camp, where physicians examined her and determined that she required hospitalization.

After requesting an air ambulance, Sumitra was transported to the government-run super-speciality hospital via an airfield located at the Dumurjola stadium in Howrah.

The medical staff at MR Bangur Hospital believed Sumitra had either a transient stroke or an ischemic attack. Speech slurring, balance issues, visual issues, and weakness on one side of the body are signs of a transient ischemic attack. Doctors noted that these are usually resolved in a day or two and are temporary.

At the fair, Swapna Mukhopadhyay, a 42-year-old pilgrim from Durgapur, also became ill. After being taken to a medical camp in a hurry, the physicians recommended that she be moved to a hospital. She was transported to MR Bangur Hospital from Howrah by air ambulance.

The two patients' conditions, according to the doctors, were stable.

"Until January 16, the air ambulance service will be available." About thirty minutes is the flight time to Calcutta, according to a senior transport department official.

In addition to air ambulances, about one hundred ambulances and four water ambulances have been maintained in readiness for any emergency.

Hospitals close to the exhibition, which draws thousands of pilgrims from all across the nation, have prepared more beds.

The holy plunge for Makar Sankranti will begin at the midnight of January 14 and continue till the noon of January 16, senior officials stated.
