On Thursday, a crowd allegedly beat up three sadhus who were driving from Uttar Pradesh to Gangasagar and vandalized their car in a Purulia village, believing them to be child-lifters.

The event happened at Gaurangdi village in Kashipur, Purulia, following rumors that the three were attempting to abduct children.

After the three were saved by police, they were taken to a hospital and given brief medical attention before being allowed to leave. The three pilgrims from Bareilly were certified by the police to be headed to Gangasagar.

According to police sources, the three asked kids where the closest roadway was to Calcutta. The children were unaware of the Hindi spoken by the pilgrims. Based on the idea that they were child-lifters, some individuals flocked to the scene, began attacking the three, and vandalized their car, a police officer stated.

National President of the BJP J.P. Nadda charged lawlessness against the Bengali administration.

According to a Purulia-based Trinamul leader, there was a misunderstanding and the police responded quickly.

In this case, twelve people were taken into custody on Friday night.
