Amit Shah Backs Sex Crime Probe Involving JDS MP Prajwal Revanna, Blames Congress

Guwahati, India: On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah advocated a thorough investigation into the alleged sex scandal involving JDS MP Prajwal Revanna. The scandal has cast a shadow over the ongoing Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka, where Prajwal is the BJP-JDS alliance’s candidate from the Hassan constituency.

The JDS took swift action by suspending Prajwal from the party, following revelations about the scandal. The party’s core committee, convened in Hubballi, unanimously recommended his suspension to the national president and former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, who also happens to be Prajwal’s grandfather.

Amit Shah expressed his concern, labeling the news about Prajwal as “hurtful.” He emphasized that any insult to “matri shakti” (the power of mothers) and “nari shakti” (the power of women) could not be tolerated. “We stand with the country’s matri shakti and nari shakti,” Shah asserted during a press briefing in Guwahati.

Turning his attention to the Congress, Shah posed a pointed question: “Whose government is in power in Karnataka? It’s the Congress government. Why have they not taken any action so far? Law and order falls under the state’s jurisdiction.”

Shah further directed his query to Priyanka Gandhi, urging her to focus on her own state’s leadership. “Instead of questioning me and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Priyanka ji should ask her (Karnataka) chief minister and deputy chief minister about their government’s actions. Why has there been no investigation? We support a thorough probe, and our partner JDS has also committed to taking action against Prajwal. Such incidents have no place in society, and the strictest measures should be enforced. This is the BJP’s unwavering stance, and there should be no confusion about it,” Shah clarified.

The scandal unfolded after a former cook of Prajwal and his father, H.D. Revanna, filed an FIR accusing them of sexual abuse. Reports suggest that Prajwal fled to Germany following the Karnataka government’s announcement of forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine approximately 2,976 “obscene” video clips allegedly linked to him.
