Arshdeep Credits Divine Intervention and Surya's Faith for Final-Over Heroics in India's T20 Win
Indian bowler Arshdeep Singh celebrates the wicket of Australian batter Ben McDermott during the 5th T20I cricket match between India and Australia, at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium

In a thrilling fifth Twenty20 International, where India defeated Australia by a mere six runs, Arshdeep Singh believed that his captain Suryakumar Yadav's unwavering faith and divine intervention were the only things that allowed him to defend ten runs in the final over.

With the dangerous Matthew Wade on the field, the left-arm seamer, who has been wasteful at the death in Twenty20 Internationals for over a year, gave away 37 runs in his opening three overs on Sunday. Nobody would have predicted that he would be able to defend just 10 runs.

"God gave me another chance and the support staff believed in me, even though I gave up too many runs." Honestly, I had nothing on my mind. After hitting those flawless block-hole deliveries and conceding just three runs, Arshdeep grinned and said, "Surya bhai told me whatever has to happen will happen."

He said, "A lot of lessons learned, but I will come back from the mistakes," in reference to his own bowling. With a convincing 4-1 series win, captain Surya thought the young team had fulfilled all expectations.

"The series was enjoyable. The boys did a great job showcasing their abilities. We desired to be fearless and to relish our moments in the middle. After I advised them to "do whatever is right and just enjoy your game," they followed my advice. I'm overjoyed about it." Surya conceded that as pitch-assisted slow bowlers, they would have won more easily if Washington Sundar had been there to support the two spinners.

Had Washington Sundar been present, it would have been an extra benefit. It's simpler to chase 200+ at Chinnaswamy. This is a tricky story, 160–175. We're playing now, I informed the boys after ten overs." Axar Patel, the player of the match, was not afraid to acknowledge that bowling on a track devoid of dew to make things easier for hitters was enjoyable.

It was enjoyable today. The first four matches featured dew. For me, it was a wicket made to measure today. I was finally able to find my rhythm after a few games." The senior spinner claimed that it got easier to work in tandem after having previously bowled with Ravi Bishnoi in a few Syed Mushtaq Ali matches for Gujarat.

"We also collaborated on a few games for Gujarat. We hope that our collaboration will flourish because we are complementary to one another. Bishnoi, who was named "Player of the Series," stated that he was hesitant to pitch because he could get hit.

"Simple is my strategy: bowling stump to stump is effective, pitching it up can be hit, but only short of length works. By pulling the long-on up, I aimed to be a conventional leg-spinner." He played in the 2020 U19 World Cup in South Africa, so the challenge there will be different on his away tour.

"South Africa will throw different pitches so but I'll try to attack there too."
