In their Women's Premier League match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Monday, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated UP Warriorz with a formidable 198/3 with to the efforts of captain Smriti Mandhana (80 off 50 balls) and star all-rounder Ellyse Perry (58 off 37 balls).

In an effort to snap a two-match losing run, RCB moved Sophie Devine to the opening position and promoted S Meghana.

The decision partially paid off as opening partner Meghana (28) provided captain Mandhana with solid assistance during their 51-run opening combination.

After Meghana was dismissed, Mandhana and Perry combined to score 95 runs off of only 64 balls for the second wicket, capitalizing on the early momentum as the UP bowlers withered away.

With flawless timing, Mandhana played strokes all over the field and showed contempt for the opposing spinners.

She was dropped on 28. She was especially harsh on left-arm bowler Anjali Sarvani and off-spinner Chamari Athapathuthu, who were carted for several fours and sixes. However, Mandhana was dismissed when offie Deepti Sharma's slog-sweep found Poonam Khemnar at deep mid-wicket.

But Richa Ghosh (21 not out) and Perry (who hit two consecutive sixes off left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad) contributed 42 runs off 18 balls for the third wicket, helping RCB easily surpass 180.

Only Deepti (1/30 in 4 overs) and Sophie Ecclestone (1/22 in 4 overs), a left-arm orthodox bowler, could finish with respectable statistics for the Warriorz.

Vrinda Dinesh will not be playing for the Warriorz for the rest of the WPL after sustaining a shoulder injury on February 28 against the Mumbai Indians.

Uma Chetry, a batter who keeps wickets, has been brought in by the UP team at a base salary of Rs 10 lakh.

Uma recently competed for India Women's 'A' versus England's women.

In brief, RCB Women defeated UP Warriorz 198/3 (S. Mandhana 80, E. Perry 58). at the end of an inning.
