The Chennai Super Kings' IPL campaign has been inconsistent thus far this year. Although they still have a decent chance of qualifying for the playoffs and are positioned in the middle of the points table, their recent performance has been lacking as they have dropped three of their previous four games.

When they play Punjab Kings in Dharamsala on Sunday, the first IPL match of the season will be held there, and they will be looking to turn things around. But considering their dismal record against Punjab, it will be a difficult assignment in the mountains.

With Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh heading home for national service and Deepak Chahar hurt, Chennai will also need to rearrange their bowling assault.

Sri Lankan short-ball player Matheesha Pathirana is one bowler who can give the Chennai attack some bite. Having looked up to Mahendra Singh Dhoni as a father figure, the 21-year-old has already claimed 13 wickets.

"In my cricket career, Dhoni has largely taken on my father's role, following in my father's footsteps. He looks after me and provides me advise all the time. It has a significant impact," Pathirana remarked.

Shashank Singh of Punjab poses a serious threat with the bat, so Pathirana will undoubtedly use some of those tips.
