Dale Steyn Stresses Importance of IPL Performance for Virat Kohli's T20 World Cup Selection

Former bowler Dale Steyn believes that Virat Kohli needs to hit a lot of runs in the IPL to ensure his spot in the Indian T20 World Cup squad since some other players have caught up to the star batsman in the shortest format in recent months.

Due to personal reasons, Kohli missed the Test series against England. He hasn't played since the home T20I series against Afghanistan in January. Since the Australian 2022 T20 World Cup, he has only participated in two T20Is.

"Look, I think it's critical that he gets runs because it will put him in a strong position to compete in the World Cup. The South African stated in an interview with Star Sports, "There are a lot of guys who have leapfrogged him recently because he's taken a bit of a break and there're many contenders that are possible to take to that World Cup (squad)."

Due to family obligations, Steyn is taking a sabbatical from his IPL coaching duties with Sunrisers Hyderabad this year. Nevertheless, he stated that Kohli's experience may prove useful to him when the selectors convene to choose the India side.

"I approach runs in a similar manner to how you approach someone's bank account," Virat has amassed many stacks of runs over the course of several years.

"If India wants to choose a team to play in the World Cup, it will work. The 40-year-old stated, "They're going to look for guys who have been there and done that, and Virat has done that."
