On Wednesday, Suryakumar Yadav had surgery in Munich, Germany, to repair a sports hernia. He won't be able to play in the IPL or the T20 World Cup in June, but he will be out for four to five weeks.

After being hurt during the T20I series in South Africa last month, the world's top T20 hitter underwent surgery on his ankle.

In 2022, KL Rahul had a similar hernia operation. Given Surya's significance to the squad for the June competition in the United States and the Caribbean, the medical staff at the National Cricket Academy made the decision to transfer him to Germany on an urgent basis.

Along with Rahul, the NCA had also decided to send people like Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer abroad for medical treatments.

Surya departed on Tuesday for Munich. Due to surgery for a Grade-II rupture in his ankle, he was unable to play in the T20I series against Afghanistan.

In the last Twenty20 International match against South Africa, Surya suffered an ankle injury after tripping over a ball while fielding. Hardik Pandya, another injured player, had been captaining the squad.

Until Rohit Sharma chose to make himself available for the current series against Afghanistan, Pandya had been captaining the Twenty20 squad. Any remaining questions about his form in the shortest format will be dispelled by his century in the last Twenty20 international on Wednesday.

Pandya, who took Rohit's place as the captain of the Mumbai Indians, is probably available for the IPL. Before the World Cup, the competition will provide several Indian talents match practice.
