KL Rahul: The 2022 team's vice captain, Rahul hasn't had a very successful IPL 2024 season. In an effort to replace Rishabh Pant as the second keeper-batter, he engaged in combat with Sanju Samson. Samson's position as an anchor and finisher tipped the odds in his favour, but Rahul's strike rate is cause for concern. Rahul lost out even if he was buoyed by the think tank's faith because Samson has improved greatly in this IPL season. Rahul has also been prone to injuries and has not been able to capitalize on his few opportunities.

Rinku Singh: This time, India will most likely miss the Kolkata Knight Riders finisher the most. He always stands out due to his temperament and tendency to never consider any scenario as lost. For all intents and purposes, Rinku hasn't had enough opportunities to showcase his strokeplay in the team reserves. Perhaps a run of high scores in the IPL 2024 would have forced him into the squad. He should have been promoted ahead of Shreyas Iyer because he failed against the Delhi Capitals on Monday but came into the bat late against the Punjab Kings.

Shubman Gill: The Gujarat Titans' performance has been affected by his dismal run of results in this IPL. Despite scoring more than 900 runs in the 2023 IPL, the opener had trouble with his big-hitting and footwork. Gill was under pressure after Yashasvi Jaiswal's century against the Mumbai Indians. There was just one other opener available for the selectors to choose from since Virat Kohli had entered the race. Gill, on the other hand, has been maintained in the reserve group and will accompany the team as a backup.

Ruturaj Gaikwad: Jaiswal and Gill presented the CSK captain with fierce opposition as well. He had taken it slow to start IPL 2024, but as the competition went on, he picked up the pace. He is ranked second on the list of highest scorers behind Kohli with 447 runs in nine games. However, Gaikwad lost favour with the think tank, which favored Jaiswal due to his abilities and better strike rate.

Ravi Bishnoi: Because of his angle and trajectory, the leg spinner depends more on the slide than on turning. In the Indian Premier League and in the few T20Is he has had, he has been dependable. In the December home series against Australia, he had been named Man of the Series. However, the wrist spinner for the Lucknow Super Giants was unable to live up to expectations, with the Indian team management favoring Axar Patel due to his batting prowess and Yuzvendra Chahal forcing his way in with strong performances.
