There is a lot of conjecture that Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Gujarat Titans, would be traded to the Mumbai Indians before Sunday's deadline for player retention and release.

Although representatives from both teams remained silent over the rumored deal until late on Friday, multiple sources told The Telegraph that negotiations had been ongoing for some days. Thus yet, no agreement has been reached or a consensus formed.

The Mumbai Indians may have to release Cameron Green because they don't have much money left in their pocket.

Since the two new teams (Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants) were drafted into the league in 2021 and the Mumbai Indians were unable to keep Pandya at the super auction, the team has developed a strong interest in him. When Rohit Sharma decides to hang up his boots in a few years, the team sees Pandya as a potential successor to the captaincy.

The auction this year takes place on December 19 in Dubai.

Cricket players that performed well in the recently finished World Cup, such as Rachin Ravindra, Gerald Coetzee, Travis Head, and Azmatullah Omarzai, will draw significant bids. As the teams try to close the gaps, experienced players like Pat Cummins, Chris Woakes, and Mitchell Starc will also be in demand.

There are rumors that Tim Sudhee and Shardul Thakur could be added to the auction pool by Kolkata Knight Riders. Additionally, due to Lockie Ferguson's string of ailments, they have chosen to release him. Ferguson was acquired by KKR for Rs 10.75 crore from Gujarat Titans, and his departure will greatly increase their revenue.

They are unlikely to break up with Sunil Narine and Andre Russell, though. Russell took a lot of heat for his play the previous season, which went a long way toward explaining why the Knight Riders finished seventh out of ten teams in the league.

Following their decision to let go of Ben Stokes, CSK will also cut ties with Kyle Jamieson.
