Rinku Singh: The Finisher Shaped by MS Dhoni

In Thursday's opening encounter of the five-match T20I series, Rinku Singh once again proved his worth as the finisher, leading India home in a tense chase against Australia. And surprise! Rinku, the finisher, has been shaped in part by one MS Dhoni.

In a BCCI video released following the victory, Rinku was cited as stating, "As for my secret to calmness, I had discussions with Mahibhai about what he does to stay calm, especially in the last over."

"He (Dhoni) advised me to try to stare straight (at the bowler) and to try to be as composed as possible. That's how I attempted to maintain my composure during the game," he stated, unable to specify the exact time of his conversations with Dhoni.

In the fifteenth over, India was struggling at 154/4, trailing a formidable 209 target, when Rinku entered the game. The 26-year-old batsman from Uttar Pradesh blasted four fours at a strike rate of 157.14 while staying undefeated on 22 off 14 balls.

We're happy that we prevailed. It felt nice to be playing with Surya outside, and my only goal was to be flawless when I stepped out to bat. In an attempt to maintain composure, I was considering what I usually do in stressful situations," he continued.

Rinku put Sean Abbott in the stands for a six when he had one needed off the last delivery, but it was a no-ball. Consequently, just the run off the no-ball was taken into account and the six was not.

"I didn't know it was a no-ball until Axarbhai told me in the locker room. We won the match, that's what counts, even though the winning six won't be taken into account, he remarked.

Rinku made headlines earlier this year when he smacked five sixes in an over against the Gujarat Titans while playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League, giving his team an unlikely victory. Because of this, he was called up to India for the August Ireland trip. He has only batted in three Twenty20 International matches thus far, amassing 97 runs at a strike rate of 194.0.
