Raids Come Ahead of Assembly Elections in Telangana
According to reports, Income Tax department authorities searched Congress candidate P Srinivas Reddy's homes and workplaces in Khammam and here on Thursday before of the assembly elections on November 30.
Reddy is running for office in the Khammam District from the Palair assembly segment.
Reddy was reportedly supposed to submit his candidacy paperwork today, according to media sources.
The Congress leader's supporters yelled protests against the searches in Khammam.
During a news conference on Wednesday, Reddy hinted that he may be the target of raids by the Enforcement Directorate and the Income Tax Department, among other Central agencies.
Reddy said that for the last several days, the leaders of Congress had been the target of Central agencies' "searches."
He further said that the BJP and the Telangana governing BRS government conspired to carry out the "attacks" on leaders of the Congress party.
"I request all my followers not to resort to any activity as they (Central agencies) may trouble me and my companies also," Reddy had said.
I-T inspectors searched the homes of Badangpet Municipal Corporation Mayor Chigurintha Parijata Narasimha Reddy, the Congress candidate for the Maheshwaram assembly constituency, and K Laxma Reddy last week.
