Indian Archers Achieve Historic Feat at Asian Games 2023

At the Asian Games 2023, Indian archers Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Gopichand Swami, Abhishek Verma, and Ojas Pravin Deotale made history as they all advanced to the compound archery quarterfinals on October 3.

Four Indian archers have advanced to the quarterfinals of a major international competition for the first time in 45 years.

In the round of 16, Vennam, the top seed in the women's competition, defeated Adel Zhexenbinova of Kazakhstan 146–141. In her round of 16 match, Swami, the top-ranked woman in the women's compound event, defeated Amaya Amparo of the Philippines 149-143.

In the round of 16, Kazakhstan's Andrey Tyutyun was upset by Verma, the fourth-ranked player in the world in the men's compound event, 147-144. In his round of 16 match, Deotale, the ninth-ranked player in the world in the men's compound event, defeated Kazakhstan's Akbarali Karabayev 146-144.

On October 4, the Indian archers will now square off against their respective rivals in the quarterfinals.
