IPL 2024: Lucknow Super Giants Sign Shamar Joseph as Replacement for Mark Wood

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) signed Shamar Joseph, a West Indies speed wonder who won a Test match against Australia last month on his own, to replace England's Mark Wood in the forthcoming IPL on Saturday.

The 24-year-old Shamar, who is now one of the world's most sought-after fast bowlers, tore apart the star-studded Australian batting lineup in their second innings with incredible figures of 7/68 to enable the West Indies record a historic victory at the Gabba in Brisbane.

For Rs 3 crore, he will sign with LSG for his debut IPL season.

The IPL released a statement saying, "Lucknow Super Giants named Shamar Joseph as replacement for pacer Mark Wood for the upcoming edition of the Tata Indian Premier League 2024."

Joseph would pay Rs 3 crore to join LSG. The speedster led the way during the West Indies' victory in the Test match at the Gabba recently. He took seven wickets in the second innings to lead the West Indies to a historic victory in Australia.

Because of the development, Wood won't be able to participate in the IPL in 2024. The ECB made the decision to withdraw Wood from the competition in order to manage his workload.

Born in the small Guyana town of Baracara, Shamar began playing cricket late in life. It wasn't until February 2023 that the right-arm pacer made his first-class debut.

When Shamar took five wickets in his first Test innings in Adelaide in January, his incredible climb came to an end.

He stunned the cricketing world by taking out long-serving Steve Smith with his very first ball in an international match.

After being signed by Dubai Capitals for the current ILT20, Shamar was later forced to withdraw due to a toe injury he sustained during the Brisbane Test. Thanks to his success in Australia, he was able to sign a PSL contract with Peshawar Zalmi.
